Training 2010

Puppy/ Beginners spaniels

Advance Spaniels
Report
The training had again been very successful with great response from the spaniels in all the different levels. John Sexton started with the young dogs, progressing at a steady pace, were using a field where he could do a variety of retrieves as well as hunting up the long grass and also introducing the young dogs to water retrieves in the nearby lakes.
Michael Cato took the more experienced dogs, working in a more dense area of ground and having long blinds / marks incorporated into their general work of hunting up through the wood and edges of a stream, then using a cut field with a few places to hide the odd blind.
Mike Hirst took the beginner retrievers’ they were using the newly cut silage fields. These followed the usual procedure of steadiness to other dogs, heel work and later retrieving.
Nick Bowley took the next group wishing to more handling work. He used a long flat stretch of ground, using the hedging line for straight lining. He also used undulating and thicker grass for a variety of retrieves, teaching the dogs to hunt the ground and then progressing onto blinds and handling exercises.
The more experienced retrievers used a wooded area and the undulating ground, walking up as well as static retrieves using as much variation of ground and retrieves as they would find I a shooting day.
All the classes took it in turn to use the water and jump in order that the handlers and dogs had the opportunity to develop these areas.
I would like again to thank the trainers who take time out their busy schedules to come to teach for the twelve weeks in all weathers. I hope those of you that did attend found some useful and helpful tips for you to carry on with the training of your dogs. Keep up the good work and hopefully we will see you again next year.
